To help address the nationwide shortage of forensic pathologists, we have assembled a highly dedicated team of board-certified and state-licensed forensic radiologists. Our experts specialize in enhancing traditional autopsy procedures through the application of advanced Post-Mortem CT (PMCT) techniques, providing crucial support in areas with limited or no access to forensic pathologists.

Additionally, several of our radiologists actively contribute to forensic research in collaboration with leading medical examiner offices, working closely with forensic pathologists to advance the field of forensic radiology and PMCT.

Forensic Imaging Explained

Post Mortem Computed Tomography (PMCT) is a medical imaging technique used to examine the body of a deceased individual after death, it is a non-invasive imaging procedure that allows forensic pathologists/forensic radiologists to view a body’s anatomy and diagnose pathology without dissection. Post Mortem CT has number applications, including diagnosis of traumatic injuries and natural disease. Post Mortem CT is often referred to as “virtual autopsy” or “virtopsy.”

Postmortem Computed Tomography

Postmortem Computed Tomography (PMCT) is an advanced and highly specialized X-ray imaging system that captures 2D cross-sectional views of bones and tissues, while also enabling 3D surface rendering. PMCT provides exceptionally detailed and clear images of internal organs, the spine, bones, soft tissue, and blood vessels, including abnormalities such as stenosis, occlusions, and ruptures. This powerful technology is instrumental in diagnosing conditions such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, musculoskeletal disorders, and infectious diseases. Additionally, with the use of radio-opaque dyes, PMCT is invaluable in assessing traumatic injuries, including stab wounds, making it an essential tool in forensic radiology and non-invasive autopsy procedures.
